In partnership with her husband Neill (Corr), Jackie Maxwell established award-winning Doddington Diary in 2000 becoming the first producers of farm-made ice cream in North East England.
The Maxwell family have been dairy farmers at Doddington for more than 50 years, with North Doddington farm now one of only a few dairy farms left in Northumberland. Doddingtons remains very much a family farm, with the entire family involved in some way.
Jackie and Neill realised the difficulties that faced dairy farmers and decided that they wanted to be in control of their own destiny. With the high quality milk available they started to experiment with ice cream recipes and, from their research, realised that not only could they produce superb ice cream but that there was no other company producing hand made farm ice cream between Yorkshire and Aberdeenshire.
Doddington Dairy now produces in excess of 50,000 litres of ice cream a year with its Newcastle Brown Ale flavour one of its most famous ranges. It supplies many of the region’s delicatessans, restaurants and hotels as well as an increasing number of visitors attractions.
In addition some of their “Unique from a Flower” range of ice creams are available throughout the UK
The farm also produces a range of local cheeses and all the products can be bought from the farm’s online store or from selected stores across the region.
